Oriana Chorale kicks off it’s 25^th Anniversary Season with the production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta Trial By Jury. This was Oriana’s first spring program many years ago- and is performed once again  in the Hollister Methodist Church located downtown next to City Hall. The first production  this intimate venue was sold out and we look forward to a sell-out again this year.

Although Trial By Jury was written by two Englishmen many years ago, it retains its laugh out loud plays on words and jokes. The sterotypical characters sing their way through a breach of promise marriage suit featuring the judge who bought his judgeship, the broken-hearted bride plaintiff, the “monster” defendant and the foreman of the jury who would “be just like a father” to the plaintiff.

It is true that Trial By Jury is typical Gilbert and Sullivan, outlandish but funny. The music is great fun and the singing is spirited. Everyone should come to see their talented friends and maybe relations attired in Victorian dress as they openly sympathize with the bride, shout at the defendant and idolize the judge for an hour. Of course, no drama, even one as non-serious as this is can be complete without a surprise ending.

The program also features an appearance by the notorious Flashbacks and other surprising guests.
